Young runners to spice up competition in Sheffield Stadium Puppy Standard

A bunch of young and talented greyhounds have gathered around for a race in Sheffield Stadium Puppy Standard in England on Thursday, December 20, 2012. They do not have much experience, so the competition is going to be an interesting one.

There are a few puppies, who have taken part in some events, but the pressure of delivering in a Grade OR contest can prove to be too much for them. Since they are all almost at the same level, the spectators will enjoy watching them race today.

They will be hoping that the competition ends up being a close one rather than a one-sided affair. However, the punters will find it difficult to choose their favourite, so will be worried to some extent.

All of the runners are fresh, so they will not have any stamina issues in the 500 metres race, which is scheduled to kick off at 19:30 GMT. Some of them might be overly aggressive, which could cost them a chance of winning the event at the end of the day.

It will not be an ideal thing to attack as soon as the traps are opened. There will be plenty of time for the puppies to wait and step on the accelerator towards the finishing moments.

Despite that, some of the participants will be eager to gain momentum in the earlier stages of the race, as that will allow them to put pressure on their rivals. Therefore, it will be interesting to see which hound opts for what strategy in the end.

The triumphant contestant will be awarded a cash prize of ?200, which will definitely encourage all of them to push extremely hard at Sheffield.

According to the bookmakers, Glenpadden Lodge will be able to finish strongly in the race, so he has been given the highest odds for a victory. He has appeared in just one Grade OR competition, where he had to settle for the final place.

However, things will be different for him this time around and he will look to exert pressure on his rivals after breaking in from trap number six.

On the other hand, Golden Wonder will also be the one to watch out for, despite the fact that he does not have any experience in this class.

The C. Lister?s trained hound has been slotted in trap number one and could end up dominating the proceedings at Sheffield.
