Twin Cities Pride Festival debuts wedding showcase

MINNEAPOLIS -- Wedding showcases are meant to give couples a taste of the latest trends. No one is watching the show more closely at the Twin Cities Pride Festival than the family in the front row.

Brad Weber and Ryan Pfeifle have been together for 14 years and have two sons. They are planning their second wedding and this time it will be legal.

"It means the world to us. Now we get all these protections that we didn't have before and basically legitimize are relationship and our family," Pfeifle said.

At midnight on August 1, when gay marriage becomes legal in Minnesota, they will exchange vows again and throw a big celebration. Planning this wedding has been easier than the last. The couple said before they found GLBT friendly vendors through word of mouth but now those businesses are catering to them.

Julie Lyford has been serving that community for years and now her business, Fabulous Functions, is booming.

"There's a lot of people calling with questions. Right now it's people that are doing vow renewals," she said.

Planning these weddings are personal for Lyford because her dad is gay. She said she has done a lot of commitment ceremonies for same sex couples and she's ready to transition to marriage ceremonies.

Weber and Pfeifle haven't decided on a location yet but say their day will be a memorable one.

"We're going to sign the paper and make it legal and we cannot wait. We're very excited," Weber said.
