While most of us were distracted by the news that Facebook acquired Instagram for a cool billion dollars, the photo-sharing service quietly found another large number to celebrate: 5 million downloads of the recently released Instagram for Android app.

The Instagram for Android app was released less than a week ago?? six days ago, if you want to be exact???but it has already been downloaded?over 5 million times.?(Google Play, formerly known as the Android Market, indicates that the number of Instagram for Android installs falls between five million and ten million at this point.)
